Evaluation of the WIA and TAA Co-Enrollment Pilot Project: Final Report

Do wrap-around services provided by TAA and WIA improve performance outcomes? Will serving TAA participants impact dislocated worker performance?

In June 2005, ETA contracted with the Social Policy Research Associates to study these issues.

National Center on Family Homelessness Funding & Partnership Opportunity 

Community Collaborative for Change

The National Center on Family Homelessness is creating the Community Collaborative for Change, a network of community and faith-based organizations in Boston's "inner core region"** that serve individuals and/or families who are homeless or at-risk of experiencing homelessness.  Agencies will be selected to participate in the Community Collaborative for Change by demonstrating a strong commitment to building their capacity to improve the outcomes for their clients, their agencies and their communities. The benefits to participation in the Community Collaborative for Change include:

  • Identification of and assistance in achieving agency-specific capacity-building needs, through individualized and group training and technical assistance.
  • Participation in peer interaction activities that will encourage cross-site learning and support.
  • A capacity-building grant of $15,000 - $20,000.

 **Boston's Inner Core Region includes Arlington, Belmont, Boston (all neighborhoods), Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Lynn, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Milton, Newton, Quincy, Revere, Saugus, Somerville, Waltham, Watertown and Winthrop.

 

In its agricultural sector Puerto Rico is challenged by the mountainous terrain of the island's center. This challenge has given rise to hydroponics which relies on water rather than soil to produce crops. A summer youth hydro-farming project was developed in part with Recovery Act funds to teach hydroponics to over 1,000 youth in rural communities. Focusing on the production of cilantro and other herbs, youth acquired skills in germination, seed development and plant rotation. In addition, participants were taught water management, hydroponic skills and were exposed to all aspects of agricultural business operations.

The Massachusetts’ Core Job Development Training launched by the Division of Career Services sought to meet the changing needs of customers, staff, and employers by enhancing core job development and knowledge sharing.  The mission was to create a consistent, yet flexible, customer driven approach to services throughout the state for both Career Service audiences – job seekers & employers.  Parallel to working with the job seeker, Massachusetts wanted to learn more about employer needs in a continued effort to exceed both groups’ expectations. Learn and discuss their strategies, how they implemented them, and tips you can take home.
